How Does ToolConnect Work?
ToolConnect automates the flow of tool data between the tool presetter, tool holder, and CNC control while controlling and verifying the tool loading process at the machine. The system can use either RFID tool identification or 2D barcode scanning, allowing manufacturers to select the approach that best fits their tooling environment and automation requirements.
RFID Tool Management
Tools are measured offline at the presetter, where geometry and other tool data are written directly to an RFID tag embedded in the tool holder.
At the CNC, the operator places the holder into the ToolConnect RFID read/write station. ToolConnect identifies the tool, reads the stored data, verifies the required process steps, and automatically updates the appropriate fields in the CNC control.
Because RFID provides read/write capability, updated information such as tool life can be written back to the tag. The data stays with the tool holder, allowing it to travel with the tool and be read wherever compatible RFID stations are available.

2D Barcode Tool Data Transfer
ToolConnect also supports tool presetters capable of printing 2D barcode labels. After the tool is measured, the presetter prints the tool data to a barcode. At the CNC, the operator scans the barcode and ToolConnect processes the information, verifies the required workflow, and automatically writes the data into the correct fields in the CNC control.
The result is the same fundamental benefit: accurate presetter data reaches the CNC without manually entering offsets at the control.
